    Guys,

I have recently (Xmas) purchased a Hot Pink Moto V3 from CPW on the
Virgin Network. I had it unlocked by the local "market geezer", and it
works with a new-ish (blue) Orange PAYG SIM. I purchased this for my
wife, who was using a Nokia 7250, with a slightly older (~2001 vintage)
Orange PAYG SIM. When I place my wife's older SIM in the V3, the phone
powers up OK, but will not make/receive phone calls, or send/receive
text messages. Am I correct in thinking this is just due to the age of
the SIM? or is there something more fundamental wrong?

I await your assessment of my problem... :-)

    Jon

PS Orange CS just say that there is obviously no problem with the SIM,
as it is working in the old phone, so, in effect, "go forth"

I have an old orange SIM in a V3 that works without any problems.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. So you think that it might not have been unlocked
    "properly"?

No, Just because his SIM works in his phone doesn't mean anything to
you really. You need to find a mate with another 'old' Orange SIM and
    try that and see

How was it unlocked? If he used smartclip then it's probable that the
handset is kanckered and will require a reflash.

A recent version of smartclip was known to destroy recent V3's.

I think that's a possibility, yes. A local market trader who I do a bit
of looking after for hardware support has mentioned it to me, in fact I
updated his smartclip last night for that very reason - it's been
    killing V3's!
