When will Blackberrys have 3G?

They seem to be lagging behind.

What use would 3G be to them? 3G offers nothing that would make them
work any better, but would make them more expensive and heavier.

I have a 3G at the moment. It's very useful to be able to browse the net via
bluetooth on my laptop. Also you'd be surprised how much smaller the latest
3G phones are now.

Not significantly faster. There is only limited storage space

Er, how would 3G make graphics richer? Have you actually used a
Blackberry?

Clearly you don't know what a Blackberry is, or what they are for.

Of course 3G is useful for connecting a laptop to the internet: that's
what I use it for.

Yes, but not when the question is a bloody stupid one.

If you use a Blackberry, you will already realise that its main
strengths are the background push email, the small but useable form
factor and the ruggedness.

Turn it into something that has a large enough display for high
quality powerpoints and you have turned it into something entirely
different: a market that is already well covered by other products.

There is no point in sacrificing its features to get faster downloads
if they are going to be server-initiated and in the background.

What sort of cost is it to access the internet using 3G? And how fast is
3G?

I have only just got into GPRS recently, but find it very slow. I assume 3G
is much faster?

I'm not sure what BB's strategy is going forward. They seem to go some
of the way to providing what users want but there are so many features
missing that would be simple to provide & practical. You can just
about view attachments but you can't edit, there's no MMS, no
customised menus, etc.
I sometimes think the designers haven't actually thought about what
people want/use in the real world.
I think a BB is really an emailing device (and a very good one) but
don't expect anything more. Otherwise maybe look at an alternative
mobile phone.

Reassuringly expensive. Between 70p and £5 per megabyte in the UK.
That means you can pay several hundred pounds per hour at full tilt.

Fast enough, mostly

It needs a good strong signal and few other users to do its best, and
that's 384kb/sec - feels like slightly slow ADSL

However, it can slow down a lot in poor signal.

Precisely my point. My must be possible to add 3G without drastically
effecting it's size. I will help you get rid of a phone or two. Convergence
is what it's all about. Who wants to have more than a dozen phones to get
all the features?

It would make it bigger, more complicated and need a bigger battery.
It would make it more expensive. It would add no useful functionality.

>I will help you get rid of a phone or two.

No, it wouldn't help at all. I have never got rid of a phone. That's
why I have so many.

I don't want some clunky great phone that does lots of things. I use
an old Ericsson T39 that provides all the phone features I need.

I only use 3G with a notebook PC, either through a Data card or via a
Nokia 7600 in the computer bag.

No one seems to have answered this. A 3G Blackberry has been launched in
the US, and the Blackberry 8700 will start becoming available here this
month.

According the http://www.mobilegazette.com/blackberry-8700-051101.htm, the
8700 does not have 3G. Is there another Blackberry released in the US with
3G? Do you have the model number please?

Thanks
