Daughter2 is going skiing with school for half term.

Which is the best Austrian sim for texting. It would be easier (and more
re-assuring) for me if she had it *before* she went away.

If I were you I'd check the network coverage in whichever resort she's off
    to. I bet there's a limited choice.

Actually, if I were you, I'd be thinking...
    a) A new SIM just for a week (or two?) on holiday?!!! Why? There are better
things to do out there than send text messages!
    b) Texting from an Austrian phone to a British one would be expensive
anyway, and even if I'm wrong about that she'd still be costing her friends
a lot of money to reply from their British phones to an Austrian one.
    c) It's not going to be much use to anyone if she's not contactable on her
    usual number.

.... and so on. You get the gist. Having said all that, last time I was in
Austria my O2 phone consistently refused to send any text messages at all.

Hmm ... methinks you may be correct.

    > There are better things to do out there than send text messages!

Try telling a 14 year old that! :-)

Maybe as parents we would want to 'keep in touch'?

Looking at the prices I reckon that probably saved you quite a bit!!

If she's only there for a week or two save yourself all the hassle and
    don't bother with a SIM.

    1. Her friends will complain it's expensive to text her so she'll put
her old one back in the phone.

    2. Her friends may not bother texting her so she'll put her old one
    back in the phone.

    3. Reception in the mountains is patchy and if she is locked to one
(Austrian) network then she may be out of range much of the time. If
she is roaming on her UK network SIM then her phone will switch to
pick up any available local network.

I'm just back from there and also found my O2 sim often refused to
send sms to another O2 sim that was roaming, but sending to Orange or
    T-M was no problem.

Cheaper if she left the phone at home.
