#1 | | Guest | Got this text message today from 07800-003211:
"Call or text now: Get a new mobile with 3000 free w/end mins, half
price l/rental &/or double txts. Call MobilesDirect 08714235672 or reply
YES! txt NO to stop"
Will I incur some hefty rate if I reply stop or should I ignore this?
Anyone else received something from them? Can I complain or will it just
fall on "deaf ears". I am not due for any upgrades so this is why I am
asking.
Thanks for any input/help.

Just ignore it, replying will only let them know it's an active number.

A delivery report would let them know it's an active number, too.

If you're on Orange the best thing to do is forward the whole message
for free to 7726. try and include the originating number manually if
it's not in the message. I don't know if anything ever happens to
these or gets done but it makes me feel better

As the number you are replying to is not a premium rate shortcode then
no, you won't.

Register your number(s) on the TPS

Were you charged to receive it..? Check, as if so, ignoring it will be
costly..!

I didn't get cold calls to my landline until I registered it for BT
Privacy to get free CLIP. It's almost as if cold calling outfits know
there's no enforcement and use the TPS lists as a source of known-good
numbers.

If registering for the TPS achieves nothing, how is it that everyone
that I have advised to register, (at least 10 people), have achieved an
almost 100% success in stopping cold calling?
As regards receiving more calls since registering for BT Privacy, due to
companies supposedly using the TPS list as their source for numbers,
this is unbelievable, are you suggesting that these companies are
deliberately targeting those most likely to complain? If this were so,
it would be a very stupid way to run a marketing operation, and they
would not be in business very long. | | | |

I have found a dramatic reduction in the level of cold calls since
subscribing to TPS and they are almost exclusively now from foreign call
centres, most obviously budget operations as the level of understanability
of the English is often low. I suspect these are not 'company' call centres
rather independent marketing operations on short term contracts to sell a
specific product for a short time, hence there lack of concern about TPS.
MPS also seems to be quite effective and has cut down the amount of junk
mail dramatically.
