#1 | | Guest | I'm looking to move to T-Mobile from Orange, and I want to take my
number with me. I might want to set up the new contract before I end my
Orange one - so, is it possible to just phone up T-Mobile at some time
in the future and say I want to port my number across, giving the PAC I
obtained from Orange? Is there any time limit in doing this? Days,
weeks, months from new contract starting?
Finally, if I went with their Self Serve option (ie. manage your account
online, else pay 50p per minute to CS, max £5 per call, but saving £2
per month on line rental) - any ideas whether I'd need to phone to port
number in (thereby incurring charges)?
Thanks
David

the network like some providers (Orange).
You don't have to use your mobile to contact T-mobile, use your land
line and their 0845 number.

Orange certainly used to let you port a number into their network well
into your contract. I have done it in the past when I was six months
into a contract. Wasn't aware that they had changed their policy.
Maybe Jon could comment?
O2 generally do not allow porting later on and normally require the
arrangements to be made as you take out the new contract.

Where did you get that misinformation from? Orange are port anytime (*UNLIKE*

Yup - my plan is to order my PAC around 20 days before contract is due
to expire. Order new (T-Mobile) contract shortly afterwards. On day
contract expires, start transfer of number from Orange to T-Mobile.
This gives 10 days to transfer the number before PAC expires, and
results in me, in theory, only having max 10 days network charges from
Orange. We'll have to see what happens in reality.

Indeed - I ported into a 5 month old Orange contract just last week.
