Roaming from O2 Ireland

It's been announced that O2 IRL are to drop roaming charges to Northern
Ireland as well as for business accounts for roaming in the UK. I wonder
if O2 UK will do likewise.

It could and it wouldn't cost it much. The reason given for the one-way
arrangement was that the UK represented the RoI's biggest export market.

I would much prefer to see such arrangements with mainstream EU markets
such as Germany, France, Spain and Poland.

That's what the European Commission want to see. They want roaming
charges brought down to the same as cross-network calls at present -

The EC have discussed this and threatened action on a number of
occasions. However they would probably have difficulty making the
change without new legislation and it is unlikely to be accepted by some
states - who probably see the figures improving their balance of payments.
