Motorola SLVR bluetooth

I recently purchased a Motorola SLVR L7 and have borrowed a friend's USB
bluetooth dongle as I would like to sync it with my laptop the way I used to
with my Nokia and Nokia DataSuite(infrared) for syncronizing with MS Outlook
2003. My OS is Windows XP sp2.

The dongle is a 'Blue-USB' and it came with the application XTNDConnect Blue
Manager. At first I had problems with Blue Manager recongizing the dongle
but this worked after I unistalled the Microsoft BT driver. Now when I click
refresh I can see the phone in 'In Range Devices'. However, when I right
click and go to 'Browse Folders', it says 'Unable or not allowed to browse
mobile'.

Also, I have Mobile PhoneTools 3.40i but am unable to get it to recognize my
phone. I'm not sure what options I should be using though I have tried
several and all cannot find my phone.

Sorry if any of the above seems obvious but I am new to Bluetooth and
Motorola - just about ready to give up and go back to my Nokia with
infrared!

I'm not really familiar with Motorola phones either but i had trouble
connecting my Moto L6 via bluetooth vith PhoneTools 3 and all the troubles
went away when i upgraded to version 4. Try the software update option in
Phone Tools and if it doesn't work, try the solution explained here
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=801158 to update to the beta
version of PhoneTools 4. If that still dosn't work, you might have more
luck asking in this forum
(http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=314) anyway, there are only
Moto guys out there.

The genuine Motorola Phone Tools software contains a startup wizard
which regardless of bluetooth device and stock which you operate should
allow you to easily set up a bluetooth connection, provided you follow
the on-screen instructions. I've never had difficulty using it, in fact
I find it quite refreshingly easy to establish a connection compared to
other phone software.

I've tried following the instructions on your link above, but my current
version is 3.40i. I went to Menu > Help > Update and it took me to this
website:
http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/upgrade/US/ but I cannot see anything
on that website to do a live update. Am I doing a liveupdate incorrectly?

As i said, i'm not familiar with Motorola phones and tools. I know that i
did the manipulation described in that Howard's forum post on my PC a few
months ago and that it worked fine. I don't remember which upgrade link i
clicked but it didn't bring up a web page; it checked whether there was a
new version available and downloaded it automatically. You'll have more
luck asking about your problem on Howard's forum
