#1 | | Guest | Wonder if any networks do a 'call forward' to an International number
(America, Germany, etc)
I have got an American and German sim card that I use quite frequently
and it would be easier when people phone my UK number (Orange) that I
can 'call forward' to either one of them.
Orange don't support call forwarding to anything other than a UK number,
I wonder if any other networks give this facility, or do they all rip
you off with extortionate roaming changes??

O2 can be diverted to international numbers, for 17p/min for Europe if
you have their ITS option. Even better for USA, you can get an 0844
number that forwards to your USA number, and forward the O2 calls to
that from inclusive minutes
For use from Orange, you might look into getting a VoIP incoming
number, forward this to your foreign number, then forward Orange to it.

Actually you replied to both of them some 2 hours AFTER I posted the
reply AND AFTER I asked the question
Thanks anyway.

Do these use inbound CLID to determine who you are and so who to forward the
call to, or do you get a unique number that anyone can call to connect to
your target? If the former then I'm not sure it would work, because
(assuming the caller had set up a number with the above site and was handed
the same 0844 as you) they present the caller's CLID and end up ringing
their chosen international number not yours. Or, most probably, be told
they hadn't set up a mapping for that 0844.

<Following up my own post>
I HAVE now followed your advice and obtained a '0911' number for my
German Sim.

Unique number per unique destination - which is why I suggested using
such a method from O2 to USA SIM - apologies for not having named any

That's ok from landlines, but don't even ask what Orange tariff to it
would be - probably 50p/min and barred by default
Try looking for VoIP providers that do call forwarding, usable without
any VoIP set-up at all.
Also, callback or calling card use for outgoing calls on the German
SIM.
Voipfone have both forwarding and several callback methods

Is this just another 'simplification' or is there a real reason?

Phoned and asked, was told 10p a min, the same as an 0844 number.
But, I'm going to phone back again tomorrow, just in case :-)

Will do.

Have looked at this option and I think that 0800 'phone card' calls from
Germany are free, but I was looking to phone 'In' as cheap as possible.

Probably revenue?
Call forward to an International number is (say)15p a min.
Call to the Orange number when roaming in (say) the US is a boat load.
How much do Orange want to make 'profit' from the call??
Bob.

I'm stunned - especially if you got an answer in under half an hour

This is true, but some 0800 calling card numbers are blocked by the
networks, presumably because they don't receive any revenue.
I got someone to check about 5 before buying a Vodafone DE SIM, and I
used Alpha Telecom (13p/min) - I haven't checked this for a while
though, and still hope to find a cheaper one sometime.
