Hi - I'm looking at several deals offering 12 month's free rental on 12
month's contracts with several different companies. (Not e2save). Does
anyone have any experience of these cashback deals and were they honoured
without any problems? Any advice would be welcome - TIA - Doogan.

Yes I do, they always seem to cause problems as most companies don't stay in
business that long or have hidden terms/costs. Greedy people that pay the
contract then sell the phones on ebay can get caught out if they can't
afford the monthly payments. You can't guarantee any cashback. I think the
last one that went was Forward cellular.
I can't see the point anyway. I could buy a phone from Virgin and pay a set
price, but buying it through CPW I get a cashback? Why doesn't Virgin just
reduce the payments as they must be wasting a lot of money paying retailers
when new contracts are signed.

I've been doing 12 month cashbacks for the past 10 years and have only come
unstuck once....with Forward Cellular, a company that went bust shortly
after taking out a T-Mobile contract. When thinking of buying a 12 month
free contract, you need to always ask yourself the question..."Will the
retailer still be around in 12mths time when I want to claim my cashback?".
My *own* rule is to only ever go for a deal from the main retailers:
Carphone Warehouse Group of companies (CPW, E2Save, OneStopPhoneShop),
Dial-A-Phone, The Link, Phones4U or Mobile-Shop. Choose wisely!
A good place that reviews regular 12 month free line rental deals is here:

I have never gone with a cashback deal but I read about them most days
on various forums and so long as you stick rigidly to the T&Cs there
doesn't appear to be many problems. Yes companies can close but that
doesn't seem to be as common as "most companies don't stay in
business." Personally I would stick to one of the bigger companies
such as Carphonewarehouse and its off shoots.
The point is you get a years contract and a decent phone for next to
nothing. Virgin or whatever the network still get the full monthly
from you, the Retailer then gives you the cashback from their
commission, (I think!)

Are there many larger companies offering 12 months free line rental? I was
looking at a deal with the U880?

I've just finished a 12 month CB deal with Dial-A-Phone and had absolutely no
problems .You stick a note in your diary, phone or PC to remind you to send in
the bill and voucher at the appropriate time and as far as DAP were concerned
they paid within a couple of days .It's just a question of being organised
..Companies rely on people NOT sending the vouchers in .

Don't you mean in 3,6,9, 12 months ( or whatever) ?. Are there some that only
pay cashback at the end of the term .?
