I've had one cancelled for inactivity. The SIM is still my drawer.

Simple it may be, but it would be quite nice to have that explained
somewhere without having to prevail upon the good nature of the folk here.
It's a disappointingly analogue process -- I'd rather expected that I'd be
able to do it without resorting to a voice line (even an automated one) --
but it is, as you say, simple. Once you know.
Many thanks.
Cheers,
Daniel.

If you register on their website you can top it up online. You can even
register to pay by direct debit such that you never have to top it up
again!

Or you can do it at most cash machines, which is what I do.

Thanks for that.
I take it that the network I should select is:
United Kingdom - Virgin -23430
?
What's the significance of the "23430"?
Is there any reason that I should be wary of entering the IMEI into a
webpage like this? The page appears to send the IMEI to a remote site to
perform the calculation, could that site do anything I might not wish them
to with the IMEI data? (I'm not suggesting that that site is untrustworthy,
but asking a general question about whether the IMEI is something one
should ideally wish not to give away to every Tom, Richard, and Harriet.)

Hmm. Is downloading and running a (Windows?) executable of unknown
provenance (again, not meaning to cast nasturtiums) any less a security
issue than sending someone my IMEI?
Cheers,
Daniel.

Scan the file first and deny internet access and your 99.9% safe
(unless, of course, you are using Norton).

Say what you want to mate, but when I put it in a phone it says "SIM
Registration failed". That means it's been cut off.

Or the SIM is damaged or the phone is locked or you were cut off for
another reason.

I take it you don't run reliable virus and spyware scanners on anything
you download..?!

I do, of course, but I am aware of the limitations of even the best of them
-- as should we all be.
Cheers,
Daniel.

Re: Virgin PAYG info wanted
All you have to do is dial 789 on the virgin phone and if you want the
mobikle unlocked send it to a mobile phone shop or some markets do it, it
will cost you £10 or more to have it unlocked.
i hope this helps.
