Hi, a question for all you UK phone experts.
I'm from the US but I'll be visiting the UK soon. I have an appropriate
GSM phone and I bought a Vodafone pay-as-you-go SIM on ebay. Now that I
have the SIM, I'd like to activate/register it online and get my phone
number and top it up. However, all I got from ebay is the SIM with
nothing else. I don't have any other information. I setup an account on
vodafone.co.uk, but then when i try to topup it wants the phone number.
I don't have that. And I can't find a way to activate/register the
SIM.
So what I have is the SIM card, with the long number on it (6 4-digit
numbers on the SIM itself). Anyone able to help me out with how to
activate this and add some money to it?
Thanks for your help,
wolf

Re: Setting up a new Vodafone SIM
Hi Wolf
Are you able to connect to a US network with the SIM? If so try *#100#
this should display the phone number (but not sure if it works outside
UK) or else send a SMS to another cellphone and find out the number
that way. Voda SIMs come with a miniumum of £1 credit so that should
be enough to send a text without top-up.
If you can't connect to a US network then I think the only option is to
contact Vodafone to get your number.
Hope this helps.

Re: Setting up a new Vodafone SIM
Figure it out - the band was the problem, now I can get a provider and I
found the phone number. I was able to register it on Vodafone's site. I
still can't get it to work with a US credit card, but otherwise all is
well. I'll have to TopUp in the UK, but at least I have a phone number
now.
