I know I only have myself to blame for trusting eBay, but I bought a
Kingston 512Mb RS DV MMC memory card.
Only compared to the 256Mb cards I bought previously, on the 512, there
is No Packing, the carry case is decidedly cheap and tacky, the
Converter to full size MMC doesn't detach properly and is obviously
cheap, the label is smudged, and doesn't actually fit in the square
"window" for labels, the back has considerably very dodgy circuitry, the
contacts look wrong and not as professional, and as it's some kind of
resin coating, the circuitry actually shows through.
Looking up the code of MC2GH512DMCU on the internet, actually reveals
this to be a Samsung!
Now, before I jump unnecessarily, do Kingston use Samsung for MMC's?
I mean, there's physically no problem with it, and it works fine, and I
will be leaving positive feedback, I just don't like being sold a
Kingston MMC that actually turns out to be a Samsung MMC.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Simon

They do indeed; but there's plenty of 'fake' memory on ebay, so unless it
was an old dimm/simm for an older computer, I would stick to online
merchants to be on the safe side.

There are only 3 manufacturers of the flash memory that is used to make
these memory cards (Samsung, Sandisk, Toshiba IIRC). All the others hundreds
of "manufacturers" either assemble or rebrand (depending upon costs at the
time) memory and controllers from one of these 3. You could buy a card from
Kingston or Viking or anyone else one day and it will be made by Samsung,
the next and it might be mostly made by Sandisk, and partially assembled by
Kingston, or their only step in the manufacturing process might be to put a
label on it.
