3G tarrifs

Are 2 and 3G tarrifs and priceplans equivalent on some networks? I can't
seem to find "3G" only ones.

The reason I ask is that say I'm on Relax or Dolphin etc, and I buy a 3G
phone (HTC Universal or n70 etc). Would I just put my existing sim into the
new phone?

What if I get a n70 contract now, and decide to use my old GSM phone. Can I
just put the new sim (are they called usims?) in the old phone?

Depends on your network.

For Orange, unless you upgrade to a 3G phone, they will not send you a
3G USIM/enable 3G on your account. Bizarrely, if you then later
'upgrade' to a 2G phone and use the standard 2G SIM included (which I
understand, they say you must do), you'll lose the ability to put that
SIM in a 3G device (ie. your old phone) and get 3G service.

For T-Mobile, I understand they give out USIMs as standard now for all
phones, and are 3G enabled, therefore putting it in a 3G device will
give you 3G services, even if you never bought a 3G phone from them.

Hope that helps,

D

None of the networks have "3G" specific tariffs.

No, you'll need a "USIM", and, from what I've read on here previously,
Orange will only give you one if you upgrade to a 3G capable phone
through them. IF you go and buy your own 3G phone, you'll be stuck
with the SIM you already have.

That should work fine.

You could do that but referring to Orange for a moment, if you don't
have a 3G handset registered on your account you won't be able to use
the 3G services/speeds.

And on Vodafone, I used the original SIM from my Nokia 6600 in a Nokia
6680 and was able to get full 3G service.
