Cost for 3G data

How much would it cost roughly to download 50meg/month on a UK network?
Mobile TV is coming and I wouldn't mind watching some but how much is it
going to cost?

Less than £25.00 a month.

The more important question you should ask is how much TV will I get
with 50Mb.

I am paying £25.00 per month to Vodafone for 250MB of traffic (up and
down). The is for 3G/GPRS on the 3G card.

The tariff is described on the Vodafone website - under the business
section. The tariff is also available to personal customers - but add
VAT to the above figures.

Would it be possible to play online games through a 3G card on a laptop? How
much bandwidth would that be and would lag be a problem do you reckon?

Vodafone offer an "unlimited" tariff with the standard fair use policy -
which of course makes it limited. It is on their site. The other
networks probably offer the same "limited, unlimited service".

You could play games this way - but I don't and have no idea about the
latency issues. Try a gaming newsgroup for that answer.

T-mobile have an unlimited 3G bundle for £7.50 for but its fair usage
policy excludes laptops and streaming.

It is rumoured that a "Pro" version will be avaiable on around 17th
April without the restrictions but with a 2GB usage cap. A price of
£8.50 plus VAT has been mentioned.

It is also rumoured that various deals on 3G data cards will be
available at that time too.

Since those prices are quite a bit lower than other networks it might be
worth waiting to find out.

And to help Marc what up speed do games require?

I would have thought it varied by game and that the speed you quote,
with low latency, would be quite good. Perhaps my young son, who plays
these games, can try them using my 3G card and report back - I'll ask
him later today.

Depends... the rumoured T-mobile "Pro" package is supposed to have the
same upload and download speeds. Well someone has said the documentation
boasts that it is 6X faster than the consumer version.
