I have an O2 PAYG SIM which I bought a couple of months ago and put £10
credit on at the time of purchase. My intention was to cancel my O2 pay
monthly account and port the number to it. However, I was then offered a
better monthly deal by O2 and decided to go with it. As a result I've never
    activated the PAYG SIM.

What I'd now like to do is switch to PAYG when my current contract ends in
10 months time. Will I still be able to port my number to what will then be
    a year-old SIM if:

    a) I've still never activated it, and only do so at that point, or
    b) I activate it now and keep it active by making a quick call in just under
    six months time?

If I didn't activate it for a year, would the £10 credit still be on it when
    I did?

    Thanks.

If you have topped it up with £10 its activated you will need to top it
up at least once every 180days to keep it active. If you dont top it up
before the 180days the sim will be disconnected & you will lose whatever
    credit you have on it.

I haven't called up to activate the SIM and it doesn't yet have a phone
number assigned to it. I'm trying to find out if I can get a temporary
number now by calling up to activate it and then port my pay monthly number
to it at a later date (even if it is several months later).
