Hi there
Any chance of this working?
I have a 6680 which a) isn't working properly and b) I don't like using
anyway. I have Orange Care, but wanted to take a different phone rather
than making them give me a brand new 6680 which I will definately
replace in 5 months (got it last September).
I've been a fairly heavy Orange user for 6 years or so (bills around £40
- £60) but the person I spoke to yesterday told me they'd charge £200 to
change my phone.
Does anyone know how I can persuade them to help me?
Thanks a million

Been there and failed. I was a customer for some years, in which time I
had one upgrade. When I tried to upgrade recently I was told that the
system depended on the past three months bills and was quoted £250. I
went to ask for a PAC code and they did reduce it to £199, but this was
totally different to my wife, who got a free upgrade last summer, just
by nagging.
They seem to have adopted a customer care policy of no care or flexibility.

The 200 quid is likely an "early upgrade" fee, so you won't have much
luck getting out of that unfortunately.
IF you really are having problems with the 6680, I would suggest
buying a cheap handset to keep you going until you can upgrade (you
may be able to do so as early as July or August), and, depending on
what you want to upgrade to, you'll probably end up spending less than
200 quid, and, of course, you can always sell on the 6680 and the
short-term replacement handset when you get your new one.

No.

Becuas you're only 7 months into your contract.

In what way are they not being helpful?

Clearly
Jon, the tone of your message gives the impression you think I'm annoyed
with Orange, or consider it my right to some kind of deal - this isn't
the case. I've had many upgrades over the years, and on one occasion
they gave it to me well before my contract ended. I've had a pretty good
impression of their customer service.
On this occasion all I'm trying to do is to get them to give me a
different (possibly cheaper) phone than the Orange Care replacement
which I'm entitled to, not an additional free handset.

Again, I think your reading something into my post which just isn't
there: asking them for help does not mean they're currently being
unhelpful. What I wondered was whether someone here had been in my
situation before, re Orange Care.
Sorry about the lengthy reply, I just didn't want to be the source of
yet another idiotic usenet pouting competition, and I'm sure you didn't
either.
Gavin
PS
Thanks to Matt for replying. I'll resign myself to another 5 months with
my replacement and a new handset as soon as they'll let me

OK... how about doing this....
1: Get the Orange Care Replacement phone.
2: Buy a cheap handset (unlocked, or locked to Orange) eg from ebay.
3: put your SIM in it
4: Sell the replacement handset that Orange Care sent you.
5: When you're remaining 7 months are up, Upgrade to the handset you
want.

Thanks, Matt - good idea.
