You upgraded a C500 to WM5? I assume you're using a leaked/hacked ROM
for the C500 as I've not seen an official one. If so, check out the
quality of the camera images - I've heard they're practically useless on
the leaked/hacked ROM.

...whereas with the official firmware they are just 'crap'.

Mine's been fine using official firmware. If I want a proper picture, I
just use my DSLR. Considering the mass produced plastic 'lens' they use
in camera phones, it's not a bad picture.

Oh, it is a _bad_ picture.

I wish they'd just left the camera off and sorted out some of the other
problems with the phone. For example, using the supplied software and UI,
I can't seem to get rid of dud accidental words that seem to end up in
my T9 words file. Right now, when I try to type "did", I get "Dqd" as
the first choice. I really wanna get rid of that. On my last C500, whenever
I tried to type "stay", I got "ptaw" as the first choice. I must have
accidentally entered those as valid words at some point, but I don't
remember it, but I shouldn't have to revert to factory default and lose
all my other words, just to expunge a few ****ups.

And FFS, I wish they'd pre-load T9 phones with at least some semblance of
vulgarity, cos I'm heartily sick of having to teach them "****", "****",
"wank", "wanker", "****", "****ing", "****face", "****e", "arse", "arsehole",
"tosser", "jism", "wankers", "wanking", "****ing", "****er", "****ers",
"****ting", "arses", "arseholes", "assholes", "****ed", "wanked", and so many
more common words.

Also, it doesn't come with even the most basic "notepad" application.
I downloaded one that's quite good, but really, a phone aimed at
professionals, as that one is, should have it as standard. I use it to
maintain a shopping list. Pretty standard, I'd have thought. I don't care
whether it'll sync appointments with Outlook, but I would like it to help
me maintain a simple text file, please.

And, CRAZILY, out of the box, it won't let you transmit a file via
Bluetooth to a remote phone. How broken is that? I was horrified at
needing to download and install SmartExplorer. On my new one, I still
haven't got around to downloading it again. (I broke the last one by
falling on my arse on a slippery floor, so had to get a replacement.)

I do really like that it will hold literally thousands of text messages
without requiring me to delete some to make space after I've
received about 20 messages.

But to return to the original point, the camera on the C500 is utterly
useless, and a waste of time and cost.

I got a C550 which (like many Windoze smartphones) unbelievably lacks a
GPRS counter. The joystick wont register diagonal movement (a common
hardware limitation) and ActiveSync transfer speed is horrendously slow
for larger files.

I'd imagine a C500 is similar.

Still I got the thing for £50 with 512Mb mini-SD card when O was messing
up upgrades so I can't really complain.

Steve.

You hated it that much eh?

I took some ok pics with mine. When I showed them to a friend who also
had a C500 he couldn't believe they were as "good" as they were. Maybe
some had slightly better lenses.

It probably comes down to expectations. I don't expect a <1MP camera
phone to produce images anywhere near a digital camera could.
Considering all of my lenses for my digital SLR ('just' 6MP) cost >
£100, some closer to £500, I fully expect that mass produced 5mm pieces
of plastic to produce less than perfect results. But I'm pleased with
the pictures I got from mine - they served the purposes for what I
wanted them to.
