Yes, most them. It's more down to which handset you get really. Avoid 3
though.

As far as i know (unless there have been changes recently), O2 PAYG is
limited to WAP sites and won't let you connect to most POP3, SMTP and IMAP
servers.

Virgin PAYG is great for this. BUT Virgin has no SMTP server so sending
emails is SLIGHTLY complicated to set up but once done it works a
treat. There is a whole thread about sending email with Virgin on this
newsgroup which describes setting it up. Basically it involves using
signing up on 02s web site for a free email account, then using those
details to use O2s SMTP server.

But it does work!

Err... why not simply using your own email provider SMTP server just as you
would do on your PC? I'm with virgin and i'm happily sending emails through
my Yahoo and Gmail account without any problems. The only bad thing with
Virgin are their quite steep GPRS charges (£5/MB) so Virgin is to be
avoided for high GPRS usage. On the other side, their don't charge any
roaming charges on GPRS when you're abroad so that makes them a lot cheaper
than the others there.

Many SMTP servers can only be used if you are accessing the internet
through the ISP which owns the server. Other SMTP servers can be used
if you authenticate yourself by supplying a user name and password,
e.g. Orange, O2 and Yahoo. So *you* can send mail the same way on your
mobile as at home, whereas someone using (say) Wanadoo's SMTP server at
home would have to set their mobile up differently.

Oops, i didn't know that. Thanks for pointing it out. Yet another reason
not to use ISPs emails. What i've said still holds true for those who have
not been trapped by their ISP though.
