porting a number to an existing contract

Hi,

I'm looking to change networks, and have seen a deal I really like.

Thing is I'm still in contract for a few more months. Can I take the
new offer now, and then port over my current number a few months from
now when I can get out of the current contract?

(I'm looking to move to Vodafone)

The literature all seems a little vague on this!

Cheers,

Anoop

Why not pay yourself out of your current contract early? It would be the
same in the long run?

If you want to port your number in to Vodafone, you can only do it at
the point of sale, whether this be online, in store, or over the phone.
You wouldn't be able to take out a new contract now and port your
number across later.

As mentioned above, you might be able to end your current contract
early, but you'd need to check with your current service provider if
you can do it, and whether you'd have to pay an early termination fee.

AFAIK IanG is spot on, you HAVE to give PAC and number to transfer at
point of sale, Vodafone don't issue temporary numbers they just connect
your ported number. Depending on current network you may well be able
to lower to lowest line rental then pay off at reasonable cost and get
PAC early (usually OK with O2 and Orange not sure about three or
tmobile though)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I'm on a pretty low tariff with Orange, and am going to see if I can
terminate the contract early. Otherwise I guess I'll have to wait it
out.
