    Not possible mate

You'll need hardware (such as SmartClip) ... which is expensive for a one
    off

What the hell was that all about anyway? Camera without video... it only
requires very basic software to operate as a camera. Laziness!

The V3 can be unlocked using free software, I've unlocked 2 myself. All you
need is the USBcable that came with the phone. I'll upload it when I get a
chance. Comes with a flash file that enables the use of video recording.

    Nothing of the sort.
Many, many features on subsidised phones are locked out.

Are they? Can only think of one example myself, the non-ability to use
non-DRM MP3 files as ringtone on a Vodafone Live branded K700. And that
was done at the behest of the Network, not really a limitation of the
    device itself.

In the case of the V3, the first ones never had video recording
functionality, this was later included in a firmware upgrade by
Motorola. Presumably they were in such a hurry to get the V3 to market
they skipped on the complicated software development.

    For example, my 3 phone.
Can't set backgrounds from any jpeg, can't read html or play videos from
the memory downloaded from the PC.
In addition to not being able to run your own java programs.

I'd really like my next phone to be completely open-source.
