Further to my previous post regarding my unbranded (bought from Expansys)
Nokia N80 failing to access the Vodafone Live! page, I spent an hour on the
phone to Vodafone today.
After confirming all my settings were correct they then escalated me to the
technical dept who after asking me to juggle various settings came to the
opinion that the phone could not access the Live pages as it was unbranded
and did not have the Vodafone software on it to allow it to access the page.
At first I thought this was an excuse and perhaps the Vodafone Network did
not as yet recognise the phone as a Vodafone Live! phone.
However on reading a little more via Google I have found the browser on the
N80 is not a WAP browser, it is a full Internet browser and cannot display
WAP pages. Is the Vodafone Live! page a WAP page and is this why the N80
produces the error "unsupported content type" when I try to access it.
If this is the case are there any WAP Browsers that will work on this phone
so I can test my theory? Is Opera Mini a WAP browser as well as an Internet
Browser?

Looking at the N80 manual from the Nokia website (I don't have an N80
myself), it seems to suggest the N80 browser supports WML as well as
HTML and xHtml. (WML is the language for "wap" pages).
That being said, some of the reviews i've read on the N80 suggest it
has 2 browsers, the full "internet" one, and a more traditional "wap"
type browser, although the manual doesn't seem to suggest this.

The Opera website only lists opera mini as a "Java based Web Browser"
to access the "full internet".
It doesn't make it clear if it supports WML/wap, but if you look at
www.opera.com yourself, you may be able to find the answer.
For the record, I don't think it could be down to the N80 web browser,
as surely thats what the Vodafone branded N80's have, unless Vodafone
have installed something extra to "their" handsets to enable access to
the "live" service.

The new series 60 web browser (which is the one supplied with the N80)
doesn't indeed support WAP. However, the old WAP browser is still
pre-installed on all series 60 v3 devices. Have a look in the application
menu you should be able to find it somewhere. As another poster suggested,
the free Opera Mini might do the job just fine too.

Just tried the Opera Free - could not get it to work - I will hunt for the
WAP browser!

Try 'Services' in the menu (or possibly hold down the 0 key).

Well I never did!
Pressing and holding 0 took me straight to Vodafone Live!
Many thanx indeed!

Glad you got that sorted, FYI holding down 0(i) or going to 'Services'
in the menu goes to older style browser from the older Series 60
phones, if you go to 'Web' in the menu that browser has a pointer on
the screen and is for full web pages (it's pretty neat), on Orange for
example, that doesn't take me to the Orange World WAP site but instead
to the proper www.orange.co.uk homepage.
