Ok, I express my freedom of choice to call top posters plonkers and those
that defend them bigger plonkers.

When outlook express is tweaked to ensure people type after the comment,
then we can perhaps complain more.

Already done:
http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/
which though useful doesn't excuse laziness.

I know it's annoying, but usually newsgroup newbies learn after they see the
majority of users posting as is expected.
Incidentilly I did try that wee utility a while ago, but couldn't get it to
work for some reason.

Not usually.
Usually somebody who, having a dead brain, just accepts the defaults
Micro$loth has coded into outlook express.
Top-Poster = about as welcome as those who drive on the wrong side of
the road.

If the default was to start typing at the bottom, the cretins would
include the whole preceding message thread.
Every news client puts the cursor at the top so that you can review
the preceding message and decide how much of it to leave as a quote.
Admittedly OE makes it harder than it should, but there are better,
free alternatives people could use.

At risk of descending even further into vulgarity, I will say no more,
except that c***ts are at least useful, which is more than can be said for
top posters and their defenders.
At least I don't hide behind a stupid pseudonym.
