SPV C500 / i-mate SP3?

It's looking likely that my Nokia 3230 is going to give up and die soon,
either by failing or by me throwing it in frustration!

At the moment I'm not wanting to take out a new a contract until the new
year, so I'm wanting a phone to bridge the gap for ~6-8 months. Then maybe
I'll get a full blown PDA/Phone thing.

I've noticed on expansys they have the i-mate SP3 for £99.95, and it runs
TomTom which is important. (It's the international version, which I think
just means it doesn't have a UK plug)

Bascially, is it any good? Are there any overriding problems with it? Apart
from the usual calls and texting I use TomTom Mobile and like to have my
calendar/contacts synced with outlook via bluetooth.

Is TomTom Mobile multi format then? Whilst it supports Nokia and
Windows Mobile devices, do they actually ship both versions in the same
box, or only the version you require?

Going via TomTom's shop, when I select TT Mobile it asks for the handset
details, and I end up with "TTM5 NOKIA Full Product Great Britain" in my
cart. Doing same for WM device, I get "TTM5 GPS Bundle GB Smartphone".

Similarly, Expansys list "TomTom MOBILE 5 for Smartphones" and "TomTom
MOBILE 5 for Nokia Phones - Series 60".

I suspect you won't be able to get your copy from your 3230 onto a SP5
without buying a Windows Mobile version.

Unsure. I would think the maps etc would be the same, you can download the
application itself from the TomTom website.

I would have thought TomTom will make you want to buy the software again.
But you are right, the map data should be the same.

The SP3 or C500 is a great phone. It is the first Smartphone that HTC got
right and the only phone I've kept for more than 5 minutes. I've just moved
to a SP5 (because my new TomTom Go won't link to the C500) and to be honest
the slight extra bulk and cheaper feel of it compared to the C500 has
disappointed me quite a lot, I wish I could go back.

Of course I now have an unlocked, boxed, C500 sitting here, that could be
sold cheap. You could use the extra cash for TomTom. Email me if
interested.

Don't get a C550 or equivalent, they just aren't very good.

Cheers
Marc

I got a pre-canned response from TomTom, mostly about reactivation which is
fine. The final line just said "download the software from the website". The
fact they didn't mention it being a problem is a good sign.
