    Hi all,
In the past week I've received 2 texts (in the UK) from 84158 and been
charged for both. (I'm on O2 PAYG). Can anyone tell me where these texts
originate and how to stop this? I've tried replying to the text with STOP
but it didn't get through (surprise, surprise!).
    TIA.

    Taken from www.grumbletext.co.uk

84158 Started receiving jokes from 84158... contacted Virgin Mobile (my
network) to ask what was going on... explained each has cost me £1.50...
they searched through my records and found no record of me texting that
number to subscribe... they were willing to refund the cost of the calls...
they then noticed that the day before the msgs started to arrive i'd
connected to WAP using my phone... i was connected for under two minutes
apparently... they have decided not to offer refund after all, stating that
its possible i "involuntarily" subscribed whilst i was connected to WAP...
they then gave me the number of the company making the msgs...
02079764205... as well as number for Ofcom... 08450501614... rang the
company first... got ansa msg saying company was Hi-Bite (or something
sounding like that... poor quality ansa msg!) and I could text stop to
number to cancel any subscription, and if i had complaints to email or text
their customer services... have texted STOP and rcvd acknowledgement to say
service was stopped... will wait to see if this is the case... but still
absolutely no clue how I ever got signed up to the service in the first
    place... any suggestions?

Hmmm, interesting. I got a call from my Mother a couple of weeks ago.
She said someone had sent a joke to her phone. I asked her who, but she
said she didn't recognise the number. I suggested she'd probably been
charged for it, which she confirmed after checking her balance.

Last week she got another joke.

Unfortunately my Mother deletes text messages as soon as she's read
them, so I don't know what number they were sent from. It sounds like
    this lot, though.

These are expensive. One can't help thinking that as they share in the
revenue, the networks the networks' interest in sorting these scams out is
very limited. Add to that customer services that are already poor...

Ring your network. They can tell you who it's from.

But they don't have the ability (or do I mean willpower) to bar premium
rate/reverse charge messages, and provide an audit trail to prove they
    were requested.
