    Newbie question. How can I get internet access using a mobile phone
    which is either pay-as-you-go, or, if that isn't possible (or
    reasonably priced), then using a pay scheme similar to what I use for
    my BT landline, i.e. I use the service, the company sends me regular
    bills, and I pay them? (I don't want anything to do with direct debit).

    I'd be grateful for advice on both aspects:

    1) what tariff with what company? (I need about 1 hour per day access.
    It doesn't have to be broadband)

    2) what mobile handset? (I'm ignorant about whether I have to get a
    handset and connect my laptop's modem to it, just as I presently
    connect the laptop's modem to the phone socket in the wall, or whether
    there is something that isn't a handset that I just plug into one of
    the ports of the laptop, which has a little aerial on it but hasn't got
    a keypad. I did say I was a newbie!)

    Excuse my ignorance!! I'll be grateful for any genetle prods towards
    getting wised up.

    I use a bluetooth connection from my laptop (using a USB plug in
    bluetooth dongle I got from a Vodafone shop - expensive but works) to my
    Nokia 6230 (I've tried a number of non-Nokia phones using both bluetooth
    and cable connections but with little success).

    My Nokia then connects to Orange's GPRS data service & hence to
    t'internet.

    In the 6230 I have an Orange PAYG SIM card, and use the wonderful £1
    until midnight unlimited GPRS service that you can get on Orange PAYG by
    dialling 450,3,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1 (OK, I'm not sure how many 1's,
    but there's lots) - hint: it's best calling up first thing in the
    morning as that way you get loads of time - calling up at 23:50 isn't as
    good.
