    Holding down the power button, job the reset hole, release and then
    release the power key.

    This is called a hard reset and will wipe *everything* not just the
    settings.

    I thought it was the top two command keys and the reset button on the Vario?
    Certainly is on my XDA Mini S which is effectively the same phone.

    I think you're right Richard - it's the top two buttons as you state -
    on my M500 it's the power button, but on the MDA Compact and the SPV
    M600 it's definitely the two buttons on the other side, as I've just
    done a hard reset on both these phones - Vario very similar to these
    two phones.
