Tesco Mobile CEIR blacklist?

Just spent 20 minutes on the phone to Tesco CS porting out 2 Orange
numbers.

Anyhow the conversation turned to lost/stolen handsets since they
don't take the IMEI.

I asked did they blacklist non Tesco Mobile supplied handsets, the rep
said they blacklist the SIM, so I asked what happens when whoever
nicked/found chucked the SIM? The rep couldn't answer...

Also how come my original simfree Nokia 6310i (5.50) displays 'TESCO'
when my Virgin SIM displays 'T-Mobile UK'?

Lastly the 2 Tesco SIM's I got in the post this morning were
deactivated (Sim card registration failed), they were ordered from
direct from Tesco's website.

Sam.

The network that you are on is identified by a code, not a name. The
names come from the handsets themselves, where they are programmed as
part of the firmware for that phone. These include all available
networks around the world that the manufacturer chooses to include in
there. The handset looks up the network number in the list and displays
the relevant name on the display.

Tesco sits on the back of the T-Mobile network. You have one handset
which calls it TESCO, while the other calls it T-Mobile UK. It sounds
like the latter is a little more out of date. I have an Ericsson T28s
here which displays Cellnet among the available networks if I do a
search, because its firmware predates O2.

Thanks for the explanation Chris, perhaps if I try and explain it a
bit better.

I know my 6310i has CPHS disabled by default, this is why my Virgin
SIM displays as 'T-Mobile UK' rather than 'Virgin'.

Tesco Mobile uses o2 and to make matters worse 'O2 - UK' is listed in
the manual network search rather than 'TESCO'.

No it doesn't, it uses O2.

I'd love to know how it manages that.

There is often an operator logo or details stored on the SIM somewhere
and this is pulled up, I have an easyMobile SIM that's in an old Nokia
3310 which was made a long time before easyMobile came into being, that
displays easyMobile, but then it also displays Virgin with the Virgin
SIM.

My apologies, I misunderstood the original question. I'm afraid I've no
idea what CPHS is, but I'm sure someone will be able to answer your
question.
