The safest thing could be to get him to make out a standing order to you
for an appropriate sum every month to cover his rental and usage. The
bill will get paid so protecting your position but (hopefully) you
should get the money. Once the contract's up, cancel it and let him get
one himself ... but be prepared to bail him out from time to time :-(
