OK, so I've just ported from Orange to Vodafone UK. Have come to terms
with the loss of the message waiting indicator for voicemail, but was
hoping that at least Call Catcher would work. According to *#148# it is
active with single delivery mode. So, I switch my phone off and call it
from another mobile..it goes to voicemail, I hang up before leaving a
message. Switch my phone back on..nothing from call catcher!
The Vodafone web site claims that it does work with voicemail - "It'll
also ignore any calls if a voicemail message is recorded, because your
voicemail service will tell you about those." so what gives? Is it just
a problem for me?
Thanks.

Didn't even know it existed - been playing with *#147# for years! If you
are having problems ring Voda CS on 191. They are usually helpful (tip:
ignore all the "select 1" etc prompts and you will be put through to
organic matter reasonably quickly)
It is possible to have the Voicemail Icon on Vodafone by upgrading to
Vodafone Mail. See website for how to do it. Quite good, and for a change
it is free to set up. I particularly like receiving .wav files of
voicemail messages on my email.

The Vodafone Call Catcher service has NEVER worked if you have voicemail
activated.

What you have to do is change your divert calls setting for when your phone
is switched off or out of reach so that voicemail is off. You can leave it
on for Busy or No Reply.

So it doesn't really work in conjunction with voicemail then. The
equivalent Orange service would send you a text even if the caller was
diverted to your voicemail, so long as they didn't leave a message.

According to the Voda website it *does* work with Voicemail, except it
won't send a message if the caller has left a voice message.
I'll give Voda a ring - only just discovered it but doesn't work for me
either.

Call catcher works independently from voicemail. If you use Voicemail
then why use call catcher. If someone doesn't leave a message, then
they can't be that bothered. If voicemail is turned off the call
catcher will work.
Could never see the point of Orange system alerting to you to somebody
called you but didn't leave a message ! Perhaps it's because you
can't turn off the Orange answerphone (well unless you know how)

For when the phone is off or out of coverage.

Very useful when I'm on the Tube.
Just because someone doesn't leave a message doesn't mean they don't
want to do business with me.
So I can then ring them back, hopefully before they source another
supplier!

A lot of people don't like leaving voicemails, but, especially in the
case of ladies, I like to know if they've called...

Here's their response. I guess the only alternative is using *#147#,
however you have to remember to do it every time you know your phone has
been out of coverage, and it would be more useful if it gave you the
last (say) 5 callers, not just the last one.
Thank you for your feedback.
I am sorry to tell you that we currently don't offer this service, where
if your Voicemail is active, the call gets diverted to your voicemail
and if the caller chooses not to leave a message then Call Catcher does
not inform you of their call.
I wish to tell you that Call catcher is a service in which if your
mobile is switched off or out of network coverage, information relating
to your missed calls will be stored and sent to you as a text message as
soon as the mobile becomes available again.
you have a default level of service that will allow you to receive a
single text message per missed call. However you may choose the
alternate, multiple service, which allows you to receive multiple missed
calls in a single text message.
When the phone becomes available, only calls that took place within the
last 72 hours shall be sent to the customer. Any stored information
relating to calls older than 72 hours will not be sent.

And the other annoyance (I know I'm going on) is that call catcher
doesn't alert you as soon as you come back into reception - it can take
over an hour to tell you about the call you missed - what's the point of
that!? In fact I'm starting to think that you don't get the call catcher
text until you next make or receive a call - is that right??

Because people often claim they have tried to ring but didn't leave a
message when in reality they didn't ring in the first place.

You can also use *#1471# Something Orange doesn't provide !

Now if someone could develop software that would dial *#147#
automatically every hour or so and keep them in a list, that would be
useful...
Six weeks after starting the course, so much more relaxed!
