A mate has an Orange mobile phone and has been on an Orange Canary40
contract for 3 months and pays £34 per month for this. According to
the Orange publicity those people on contracts of more than £30 are
entitled to free broadband
According to the web site
http://freebb.orange.co.uk/offerinfo/default.htm
"This offer is available with 18 month pay monthly mobile plans of
£30 and above to new and existing Orange customers (mobile and
broadband). Choose from one of the four options below that best matches
you:"
But my mate just phoned Orange and was told by the CS representative
that "you have to be in the last 3 months of your contract to get
free broadband and you have just started your contract".
I can't see this mention on the Orange T&C's
http://www1.orange.co.uk/mobileterms/#2
As Orange mobile phones are renowned for their abysmal customer service
I thought I would check with the experts on here whether this is really
the case. She's paying Virgin £15/month for broadband currently and
this Orange broadband would seem like a quick win.
Many thanks,
David
Notes
She is on an 18 month contract
uk.telecom - because this relates to the telecom service called
Broadband
uk.telecom.mobile - because this relates to a Orange UK mobile

Is it not possible for her to apply online, and follow up any problem with
so doing online too. That way if there is some exclusion (which seems
rather backward), she should have something in writing (by e-mail, or
from the web site, which can be printed).
If it is the case, then it is something a consumer programme on radio
may highlight - might get the attention of Orange, and they'll get a
load of bad publicity over it.

"more than three months left on your contract?
Simply restart your contract for the same amount of time. For example,
if you're in month five of your 18 month contract, you can stay for
another 18 months. "

Yes, at the point that you upgrade or take out your contract.

She could upgrade early and get the broadband but being only 3 months
into his 18-month contract he would have a fairly hefty upgrade fee.

It is.

My son has his own contract phone which is well outside the 12 months
since he last upgraded. However the bill comes to me and I pay it as
part of our account with Orange. He'll soon be moving into a shared
house for his 2nd year at uni. Will it be possible for him to get O
broadband once he's had the BT line at the shared house reconnected?
Will he just have to sign up for another 18 months or will his bill have
to be split of from our account and sent to that address? I tried
ringing OCS about this last light but found myself in an interminable
'we value you as a customer so much we're ignoring you' queue.

An Orange shop told me that the free broadband has to be at the billing
address :-(
Of course, you could set the billing address to his digs and set up a
redirect to the real address for just your name.

The broadband can only be supplied to the contract holders address and
landline number, so it's theoretically possible, but would involve a
little porky-pie on your part in the form of a change of address and
home phone number.
He (you) would have to sign for an 18-month contract on one of the new
animal tariffs to get it free.

They are hellishly busy at the moment. They've just taken on 500 new
CSRs but it will be a while before they are ready.

I'm quite happy for him to receive the bill, and to put it in his name -
his share costs me much more than my & my wife's together so it would be
good for him to be receiving the bill - even if I continue to pay it for
the moment. The hassle will really be changing address now and in 10
month's time when he (probably) moves out. Are Orange efficient at
processing changes of address? I guess he'll be able to give up the
inclusive BB within the 18 months without penalty as long as the bill
continues to be paid?

Ahhh - he's currently on Premier 900 with the Student 1000 free texts
option. Is inclusive BB not available on Premier 900? Is there an
equivalent animal tariff option? Could he still get the 1000 texts? It's
very likely that since he'll have a landline available which he hasn't
over the past year in halls that he and his sharemates(tm) will be able
to start using indirect carriers on that for many of their calls.

O are always playing catch up with themselves - like Demon used to with
their newserver.

I'm not sure what would happen in that scenario to be honest. The
broadband is provided as an 18-month contract, relinquishing it early
may carry a charge.
Call 550, option 2 option 2 and ask.

No.

Panther 75.

Currently panther 75 comes with unlimited texts.

Excellent - no queue on that number - thanks
It apparently won't be a problem as long as he continued to pay O the
bill for Panther 75 each month. He could even switch the BB to a new
address part way through.

The OCS bod I have just spoken to said Yes.

Looks good - might as well change him to the Panther 75
Incidentally both OCS people I spoke to today were really helpful and
enthusiastic - must be a couple of the new staff forced to work the Bank
Holiday week-end. ;-)
