MMS to email on Orange pay as you go

I bought an unlocked Nokia 6020 phone for my wife, and transferred her
SIM card from her old Motorola M3788e into it. The new phone can do
picture messaging, but we don't have another phone that can receive
them. When we try to send a message to an email address nothing is
received. I have been to the Orange site and received text messages to
set up the phone for WAP and MMS.

When we try to send a picture message it says something like "the
message has been transferred to the Outbox and will be sent" but it
never is. I also tried to send a regular text email, after putting in
all the SMTP server details, but when I tried to send it said something
like "no packet data connection." I can't find anything on the Orange
site about how to get a packet data connection, but perhaps that isn't
what we really need - I was just seeing if I could send any kind of an
email from the phone. Any ideas?

Julian

With regard to the MMS, you do not have the MMS activated by Orange,
therefore despite a correctly configured handset you message will never
go anywhere. A call to 450 to have this enabled will see you right.

While you are on the phone, you should also request that GPRS (packet
data) is on your account. The m3788 not being a GPRS capable handset
it's unlikely that you will have been provisioned for this aswell.

Thanks, Jon. I thought that doing the think on the website would
activate it as well.

Before I make the call, is GPRS necessary to send multimedia messages
to an email address? My wife isn't going to want to use the phone for
ordinary email, so unless it is required for that, we probably don't
need to activate it.

You should activate it. GPRS is the transport mechanism for MMS
messages.
