Looking to backup my K700i phone numbers, keeping it nice and simple, dont
want to sync it with anything on my PC since it tries to sync everything (eg
thousands of phone nos) which I dont want. SE dont seem to do a simple
backup/restore app that wont try and download my entire PC phone book.
Is there an option I missed or a 3rd party one thats recommended?

Jon, I've used 'My Phone Explorer' with my K300i and J300i. I think
it's quite good. And it's free.

Actually, I couldn't get FMA working (probably down to my old desktop
    and W98!)

Could be lots of things. But if it's as simple as the (revealed)
serial port not being selected, these couple of pages may help.

    http://www.csparks.com/MotoBackup/FindingThePhone.xhtml

    http://www.ozeki.hu/SMS_Server_6/On-..._terminal.html

(I've seen better pages somewhere, but can't find them again now.
Perhaps someone else knows a good trest sequence for
    Bluetooth/phone/PC connectivity tests)

    Otherwise I haven't much of a clue - I don't have Bluetooth.
    Good luck
