SE K800i and email question

Just a quick one guys...

On sending email from my K800i, whenever I'm using any account I have saved
(I use 3 on my phone), I can receive email perfectly well, but cannot send.
It just says "Incorrect username or password"

The Orange SMTP does not have a username or password, so what do I use to
get this bloody thing to send email?

Thanks guys,

Simon

Re: SE K800i and email question

I asked the same question of 3 support, they told me that 3 do not support
POP3 access of email accounts, other than their own 3mail. I was trying to
set up my Yahoo account to use via the email client in my K800i.
If you hear to the contrary could you let me know.
Thanks

Is it referring to the username and password to SEND in teh advanced
settings?

Some networks require you fill out the SMTP authentication; it's the same as
your receive username/password.

I've tried that but it does not work. :-(

I have no particular knowledge of Orange, but does the phone allow
you to set the TCP port number for the SMTP server? In real IP
networks the SMTP server you get on port 25 (if there is one) won't
ask for authentication, while the SMTP server you get on other ports
(587 is popular) will usually demand it.

I think that you might find it rejects all email unless the "From"
header contains a valid "orange.net" email address.

It's a bug in the K800i firmware:

- Cannot send emails to some SMTP servers which don't require validation
(it appears that the email client tries to send blank login records to the
server)

Have I understood correctly? You are connecting through 3 and trying
to use an Orange SMTP server? Well, it won't work. Use 3's SMTP server
or find a server that does SMTP Authentication.

No. I meant I have 3 email accounts (Orange, BT Internet and NDO). Sorry I
didn't make that clear :-)

Ah! three different accounts, not an account with 3.

I assume you are using an Orange connection. When I used Orange for
data connections, I had no problems with SMTP authentication to my
SMTP server, so either they have simplified things or the K800i has a
deficiency.

I think he meant he uses three email accounts, not Three email
accounts! I experienced the same problem with my K800 (used on Orange,
but not Orange branded) so used another SMTP account (work account)
with authentication enabled.

I presume the Orange branded version has this fixed, but if not then a
firmware update (which is needed to fix some rather dodgy photos taken
in auto mode) is hopefully imminent.

The K800 takes the best photos for any current 3 megapixel camera, but
in auto mode it's shocking how easy it is for the phone to take really
BAD photos, without warning, because it gets the settings all wrong
(and then tries to soften things up to spoil them more). Using the
flash causes most problems. K800 & Auto; just say no!

Poor, as its a camera second, thats likely to be used in auto 99.9 %
of the time. If I have to spend time fidling with apertures and iso I
think a camera would be better....

Took me a few days to figure this out. Mine usually remains in Portrait,
unless conditions have changed.
