Orange business rates

Hi,

Does anyone know what happened with Orange's business rates since Sept 1st -
did they come down in price or did they go up?

Thanks,

J.

What do you mean by rates? Call prices or line rentals?

www.orange.co.uk/business will probably have the answer.

Business rates? Perhaps you need to ask in uk.finance :-)

Re: Orange business rates

Hi John

The promotion giving 57.5 % discount on leaders for 24 month contracts
for the full 24 months, which was promoted as ending Sep 30th actually
ended early due to 'budgets being met' . This has been replaced by
57.5% discount for 12 months, followed by a mere 7.5% for the remaining
12 months.

Orange also ended (for now anyway) the 'Discount Matrix', which allowed
Orange Business Specialists to credit substantial amounts to the
customer's Orange account, direct from Orange.

Hence I was able to move a customer of mine from o2 (where they were
paying £1622 per month for the leader(s) ) to an Orange 25,000 min
tariff at £780 per month! Plus, I was able to get the customer an
£8000 airtime credit!

(For 'budgets being met', maybe read 'gave too much money away'?!)

I'm now busy promoting Voda, through which I can get customers a 50%
discount on leaders for 24 month contracts.

Thanks Simon,

Hmm, I would prefer Orange to be competitive on an ongoing basis rather than
a by a given date basis. I think I will be looking for a new provider and
moving away from Orange.

Re: Orange business rates

Hi John

Things seem to go in cycles in the business mobile world.

Until earlier this year, o2 were the cheapest (still may be if you make
a lot of texts, as these can be inclusive).

Then T-Mobile took the lead (still very good if you make calls to USA,
Canada, much of Europe, as these can be inclusive).

Then Orange.

Now Voda (certain providers only).

And so it continues.

So I wouldn't necessarily recommend leaving Orange just because they
happen not to be quite so competitive at the moment.

Personally, I use Orange for my voice calls (I ring BT a lot, and this
would cost me a fortune/deplete my minutes were it not for Orange
Business free 0800).

However, in order to get a decent data tariff, I've had to unlock my
M3100 (great handset!) to take advantage of surfing the net at 1 meg
speeds and very little cost via T-Mobile Web'n'Walk.

Simon,

Thanks for the info, especially the M3100 unlocking. It is the M3100 that I
am considering opting for - not happy about their removal of the Messenger
client though - but have not been impressed by Orange's data tariffs. If
there is a way I could use the M3100 for voice calls and then choose a
non-Orange provider for data then that is something that I would consider...
or would have if Orange had better business voice call tariffs at the
moment.

I was under the impression that from Sept 1st their business tariffs would
have falled in line with their recent 'animal' tariffs. I certainly will not
be changing my phones at the moment with Orange if this week I get a much
worse deal than I did last week.

John.

Re: Orange business rates

Hi John

You may be better off getting the Vario 2 (as long as you don't mind
the colour scheme!)
T-Mobile shops are giving discounts off Flext at the moment.

You can add on Web'n'Walk bundle at £7.50 inc vat (no Voip or modem
use)
or you can add on Web'n'Walk Pro bundle at £10 inc vat (no Voip, but
modem use ok)

Will save you £20 in unlocking, plus, as you rightly point out, Orange
deal is way worse now than last month.

Possible downside of T-Mobile is that neither texts nor minutes
rollover.

Thanks again Simon. What I really want is the Motorola Q but I am wondering
if that will ever appear in the UK now. The M3100 seems the next best thing
out of the bunch but Orange are going to have to do something special re
rates to keep my business after the end of this year.

John.
