I'm tempted by this deal on Three:
    http://threestore.three.co.uk/offerd...S14OL72&id=340

£15 a month for the full 18 months is a bargain, plus I would sell the
    handset as well.

I have a few questions first though:

    1. Has anyone tried a USIM in a Treo 650 and does it work?

    2. I assume you can divert calls to numbers other than voicemail. Is
the diverted part of the call deducted from inclusive minutes?

    3. What's the situation with data on Three now - has their walled
garden been completely removed and what is the cost?

    4. They have a student offer - "have your personal email delivered
FREE to your mobile, every month for life." How is the email
delivered? Do they use some bespoke software or can I receive email
via IMAP? Would I be able to use IDLE? It doesn't mention sending
email - does this mean this would still be charged?

Lots of questions, I just want to make sure that I will be able to do
what I need before I tie myself into an 18 month agreement.

As the Treo 650 does not support 3G, you'll find that, within a few
days of using the 3 SIM in it, you'll get blocked/disconnected.

Is that what *actually* happens or just what they state will happen?

Yes, but you get a text message first then if you continue they cut the
    sim off.

You are dealing with '3' here and they've gotch'a. Even if the phone they
sell you is damaged (e.g. dropped into water) they will still cut you off if
say you put the SIM in your old phone.

Are three as bad as all the worst examples of customer service of the four
    main networks put together or...

I see, well Three is no good then. I suppose a workaround would be to
swop your phones IMEI for that of a 3G device (but you wouldn't do it
    in this country, of course).

Not sure if that would work either.

The network will know that you are permanantly on a GSM network even though
the area that you are using your phone in has a good 3g coverage.

And I know from past experience that the people from "three" read these
newsgroups.................... as Im sure do the other networks, and rightly
so. They are not charities are they.

Three are probably one of the most competitive networks at the moment, yet
people still want to rip them off.

I compare it to people shoplifting in stores like H&M and MacKays. They sell
clothes cheaper than pretty much anywhere else, really good value. Yet, they
still have shoplifters. For goodness sake, a shoplifter trying to nick a
t-shirt that costs a pound. Whats that about?

Plus - don't they glue the SIM into the handset now?

    Yes. £2.50 gets me 10mb

Even if it does work, using a 3 USIM on a non 3G handset is a breach
of the agreement with 3 and they will notice and treat it as a breach
    of contract.

They have to pay for all "roaming" calls, so if you use a handset that
can only roam on 2G networks, they are losing out.
