Coming up to the end of my Voda Anytime 125 contract any my SE K750i
has just died. So its upgrade time but to what?

Everything I have looked at seems to have some kind of fault or be
missing something I want. I'd like a phone with a decent camera on it,
a decent music player and a radio. K800i has the same joystick as on my
K750i for much dust-gathering. Nokia N73 looks great but sounds like
its unstable. Samsung D900 looks interesting but not sure it does
    everything I want.

Anyone got any suggestions? BTW do 3G phones have poorer reception than
2G? Was on Three a few years back and it was shocking, but mainly
because of the constant switch from 3G onto O2. Similar problems on say
    Voda 3G if I get a 3G handset?

Personally I'd go for the k800i, just clear the dust out with a cotton
bud or something, top notch phone, can't believe I'm singing the praises
of a non-nokia phone, but I love it!

Are you looking at a specific budget or price is no option?

Have you looked at the K810i Walkman phone? It doesn't have a joystick like
the K750i. The bit in the middle is push only and the circle around it for
the directions is what I would describe as on a 'rocker'. I got mine on
Friday and I can't see how you would get dirt in it like you would the
K750i. Mind you, I always use one of those Bodyglove covers so I can clip it
to my trousers when I'm out and about. Keeps it clean too. And you can use
the camera whilst its in the cover - you just have to remember to turn the
belt clip on the back to one side or you end up taking a picture with half
the belt clip in the shot!

I can't fault the music player. Had to adjust the graphic equaliser on it
though to stop the music from sounding too 'tinny'. It's got a 2 megapixel
camera and the photos are pretty good. It's also got a radio player.

Anything I can get as an upgrade for free. £50 maybe as a top price to
    change.

I've been using mine for a while now for various things and I haven't had
    any instability issues.

Apparently it's changed inside on the K800i ... mine hasn't died yet

Is it worth dismantling it to just clean the dust? Probably not. The fibres
from the cotton-bud wont help much either.

It has been suggested many times that you don't have to dismantle the phone
to use a cotton bud, but if you inspect the joystick, you're only cleaning
stuff right on the surface of where you put your thumb mainly if you don't
dismantle. Pretty much a waste of time - get a replacement under warranty.

What is unstable about the N73?

I have had one, though only for the last 3 days (I got it free on a
new Orange contract). So far I like it loads. Good screen size and
    quality.
Battery still showing as full from initial first charge and has had a
fair bit of usage (being a new phone). Keypad could be a bit better
(plasticky) but it works well enough.

I have not noticed any stability issues.
I like it so much I am thinking of keeping it. Was going to sell it
and carry on with my N91. Now I am thinking of selling the N91.
Only thing that has me dithering about keeping the N91 is the Wi-Fi
(the lack of it on N73).

Going to give it a few more days before I decide which to sell.

Anyone know a fair (Ebay?) price for:

N73 locked to Orange. Also if it makes any difference one that has
been unlocked and has debranded firmware. This may be the way to go if
the difference is £20 or more and makes it more desirable.

N91 (6 months old but good condition). Unlocked and debranded firmware
    and case. Two spare batteries.

If your phone is set to pick up on both 2G and 3G you shouldn't have
any problems. When there is no 3G signal then the phone you're using,
(if set up to search for both on the settings) should automatically
pick up on the 2G network - you aren't restricted to 3G only on a 3G
phone. The only real difference is a 3G handset has the potential to
have a slightly higher drain on the battery, but nothing too noticable.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I've gone for an N73, which
after a bit of negotiating I managed to get as a free upgrade.

A colleague has recently picked up a K800i and he's noticed a big difference
in power consumption when it's in 3G mode compared to not. Isn't the
claimed talk time of the handset something like two hours in 3G mode and
    seven hours in 2G mode?

I've had my N73 for 2 weeks now and very happy with it.

I've got the following loaded onto it and running fine:
MSN Messenger (Times out if no ones online, but apart from that runs great.)
TomTom6 (Need to get myself a GPS BT Rx)
SplashID (Would be lost without this)
SlovoEd (Handy, rarely used, but worth keeping on the MiniSD card)
eRecorder (Hate the bleep during calls though)
PhotoRite (I'd rather just BT to PC, but handy)
HandyZip (What would U do without a zip app?)
    TaskMan (Worth having)
BestCalc (Better than the basic calc supplied)
ProfiMail (Best email app for the moble phone)
    SkyForce (Great Game)
SplinterCell (One of my free downloads from 3)

How do you find the keypad and joystick?

I've got a 6680 at the moment, and not sure on the joystick and slightly
    smaller keypad on the N73.....

Keypad is a bit small, but gettin used to it. Predictive texting I find is a
lot better on the N73 than my previous SE W800i.

The Joystick is fine to use, but only had 2wks, sis-in-law has had hers for
3mths now (she throws in/out of her handbag) and the bit on the ends started
to fall off, but I just glued it back on.
