I am on Vodafone paygo. I have found to my astonishment the high price of
    WAP on paygo service.

They charge £7.50 per megabyte. Whereas Orange and Virgin both charge
    between £3-5 per megabyte.

I am seriously considering getting my phone unlocked to use the O2 service.
I will not be using WAP often, but when I see that a single page load may
cost up to 30p or more, it really makes the service unappealing. Its only
saving grace for me at the moment is browsing Vodafone Live is free.
Vodafone do not even do a package for inclusive wap minutes. O2 at least
have a WAP bolt on that can be added to the monthly services. Voda have
    nothing like that.

I used the term WAP, but its not that, its internet over GPRS, but whatever
it is its still bloody expensive.

As far as I can see, their unlimited plans apply to contracts. T mobile is
just as expensive as Vodafone at 0.73p per kilobyte (£7.30 per mb) on pay
and go. Its capped at £1 per day but if you reach that £1 you go into the
next days cap. Also £1 does not really go far. On my vodafone I just
browsed 2 news stories at BBC news, it has cost me 39p.

Think Orange are £1 a day unlimited on PAYG?

Yeah its £5 per month on pay monthly and £1 per day on pay/go on Orange
World daily. But that is costly if I just want to check the news. I may
not want to use £1 unlimited every day.
I really think Vodafone ought to bring down their prices. The high prices
per megabyte is bound to put some people off of the service. While I like
the free vodafone live, it is very limited and is no match for paying £3-4
    per MB on another service.
Ideally what I would like on Vodafone is some kind of add on like the O2
bolt on. 4MB per month cost £5 off my airtime. I would gladly pay that
    amount per month.
I have emailed Vodafone to ask if they can offer anything (maybe there is a
deal I am unaware of) but I doubt they will come up with anything.

Maybe a separate data contract, such as £2.50 for 1MB, then £1 per
    MB? Or 5MB for £8, then £1/MB (+ vat)

Or get a radio to listen to the news

What do you mean by going into the next day's cap?

It says on the terms that cap runs from midnight to midnight. If you use up
£1 it rolls into the next days limit. Maybe I misunderstood it.

It means that the maximum cost per day is £1 no matter how much you use.
However you'll hit that at 140K.

One of Orange PAYG, T-mobile PAYG or T-mobile SIM only is generally the
best but which deepends on the usage pattern.

I think that we are all suffering still from the high amounts
collected by the Government for 3G licences - really an indirect tax
on mobile phone usage. I don't use net access because of the cost. The
last time I used it was when I had a T-mobile contract. They tried to
charge me for downloading files from my own web site. They reckoned
I'd been downloading games and ring tones - which I hadn't, except for
a free one from the Nokia site. I thought that if their system was so
bad that it couldn't differentiate between chargeable and unchargeable
items I had no faith in it. They said that they would waive the charge
on that occasion only. As my main use, at the time, was testing my
own software I felt that I could no longer use it - on T-Mobile at
    least.
