mobiledit is brilliant for this - free trial and then $25 but does all
sorts of other sync stuff too

Don't know why Samsung can't manage to do this for themselves. Most of
my SMS are more than 160 characters and I've never been able to save
them before so my mailboxes have ben perpetually full. wonderful now
they're empty....
