    No.

You can set up a direct debit - the minimum top up is £10 per month, and
you get 10% bonus credit for topping up this way.

How about letting said child manage their own credit?
That way, when they've run out for the umpteenth time,
they might just learn the value of money.

Orange PAYG has the facility to make a short (<30 seconds?)
call if totally out of credit, so they could still phone
    home in an emergency.

Having been an O customer for almost 10 years now I can safely say that the
words "Website" , "Orange" and "Working" have NEVER gone together ESP when
accessing acct info (even just trying to log-in even)

They direct you to a 50p a min phone no.

Indeed. I would have thought that dialling 453 would have been within the
capabilities of any child who had the necessary skills to use the phone for
    'normal' purposes.

Why don't you want a monthly contract?
That seems to me to be the answer to your problems.

You can do that in several ways, such as with a swipe card in any Orange
shop, also many other locations such as supermarkets. The local O shop
round here is always full of kids crediting their phones. I used to know
the previous manager there, he once told me that some of them were
practically daily visitors, putting a fiver on one day and then coming
back the next day to do the same..!

Because it would allow a child to run up an unlimited bill. I go along
with the suggestion to let them manage their own credit.

I think you still need to phone Orange to use it, though. My
daughter's PAYG phone was low on credit, but I recently changed my
credit card so needed to register the new card with Orange. It took
several days to get through: I usually give up after 15 minutes in a
    call queue.

No, a swipe card can be activated by calling 450 I think and going through
the menu options. Once that's done, it can be used in lots of places. A
    swipe card isn't like a credit/debit card.

Indeed. It's a card supplied by Orange, which has to be registered to your
phone - which you do by ringing the appropriate number from the phone
itself, and keying in the card's number. Once you have done that, you simply
have to trog along to Wollies - or almost any supermarket - and they will
swipe the card, relieve you of a fiver or whatever, and the credit is
    instantly added to your phone.

Surely any auto top-up system would also allow a child to run-up
    an equally big bill?

Good way is to let them take responsibility for the balance - knowing they
will be grounded if they want to go out with a balance of zero on their
    phone

That's what I meant. I did not say an automatic top-up system, I said let
them manage their own credit which is exactly what you suggest.
