It's upgrade time, so i need some reccomendations...

I work as a builder, so need a phone that'll take a lot of dust and the
odd fall off a scaffolding! My current w800i has all but given up
    because it's full of dust.

I used to have a nokia 5140, which was up to the job, so i need
something similar, bluetooth is an absolute must (car's wired with
bluetooth) and it needs a half decent camera.

    Any comments?
    cheers

    <top post fixed>

Its a joypad - you can see it better on the photo below.

    http://www.mobilewhack.com/images/nokia_5500_1.jpg

You're not going to get many handsets that can withstand a great amount
of abuse, in particular dust - but the Nokia 5xxx series have always
    been among the better ones.

I'm very much a SE man myself but for what the OP needs...

I bought one for a relative. I feels really good and solid, small and light
with a really bright screen. The joypad is pretty good (no joystick). If
you're looking for a though phone, then i guess that you won't find much
better than that in the mainstream market. There are some pictures and
video of the 5500 being put to the test here:
<http://www.mforum.ru/phones/tests/036591.htm> (in russian but just scroll
down and click the various play buttons to play the videos).

The only thing is that the fonts on the screen can sometimes be really tiny
so I wouldn't get this phone for anybody that doesn't have perfect eyesight
(or good lenses). Also, since it's splashproof, the charger's connector at
the bottom is protected by a plastic cover. This will probably make it
impossible to use it with a car cradle that has a charger plug.

Do you know how it compares to the old Nokia 5210 (the traditional
tradesman's phone)? That's what I use, having trashed my previous SE
with dust in the joystick and keys. But it has no camera / bluetooth etc.

It's just an evolved version of it. It doesn't feel as 'rubbery' and
protective but it certainly seems sealed from dust.

Sounds like this 5500 is the phone for me... Always had nokias, but
fancied a change - all the nokias that were about this time last year
were a bit too stylised for me!

I'll probably try and get one on upgrade from o2, but i could be tempted
by vodafone if they'll do a good deal.. Currently pay £25 per month, 100
mins/100 texts or something along those lines.. Always within the free
minutes/texts too. So if anyone knows anything i don't about the deals
to be had, point me in the right direction!!

Cheers... and thanks for the info!
