my father in law has had one of our old Nokia 3510 mobiles fitted with a
PAYGo SIM for emergency purposes. I keep it up to speed on call funds via
    online payments.

As far as I am aware it had between £5 and £10 left on it but recently shows
    no signal strength.

I did all the normal stuff, switch off, remove battery, install battery,
switch on but now all it says is Inactive Sim. I have tried the SIM in my
phone and it says the same.

Googling points at stolen or blocked phones but this definitely is not the
    case here.

Could it give this statement if by chance it has run out of call funds. I do
not want to pay in any more only to find its a corrupt sim maybe.

How long since last used to make/receive a call or topped up? Most expire if
that's not done for 180 days I believe.

Depends on the network, but some insist you make a call every so often
    to keep the sim active.

Ring the network and ask - especially if there's credit left on it.

Otherwise, Orange are doing free sims on their web site.

More likely that it has not been used for several months. Call the
    network and ask.
