Cancellations and PACs

I am nearly at the end of a one-year contract with Orange. I've told
them I want to cancel on 8th February and they have confirmed this. I'd
like to try another network and a different phone but I think I might
not like the new phone. So I was going to order the new phone over the
internet from t-mobile or whoever and then send it back if it's no
good.

But what happens if I want to keep that phone and port my old Orange
number across? Is that still possible given that I've told them I want
to end the contract on 8th Feb? How would I go about doing this?

Cheers

1. Ask Orange for your PAC ready to port the number
2. Get a new Orange sim free from the Orange website
3. Fit new sim to old phone
4. Get a new deal/phone
5. port the original number over to the new phone

Why would you want to do this?

To what end?

If you are suggesting that the OP move to Orange PAYG to keep the number
alive during the "hunting for new phone" period, then he needs to ask
Orange to post one out to him, and on receipt to call 0800 079 0027 to
register on PAYG with the contract number.

If the OP got a move on then he could ask for his PAC now and just do it
the easy way.

If you want to keep your Orange number you will need to ask Orange for
a PAC before 8th Febuary. However, be aware that doing so will override
your cancellation request (as the PAC has to be active to 30 days) and
will change your effective contract cancellation date to a month from
the PAC request date. Subsequently, if you do not use your PAC your
contract will not be cancelled and will continue past the 30 days.

And by "get a move one" I meant buy your new phone very soon and start
the process of "deciding weather he liked it or not" so that the normal
PAC process can begin.
