N73 on O2 firmware

Is it possible to upgrade the firmware to version .0.0.3 on O2? It's
currently on version .0.0.1 and when I use the Nokia updater software it
just says that there are no updates available.

I know that Nokia has made the firmware update available but are O2 blocking
it for some reason? I don't want to debrand my phone, as voiding the
warranty is the last thing I want to do, I've already had to send this phone
back once to be sorted out.

I did email O2 on the matter but they just emailed back saying "contact
TomTom", which I have done, that's why I was emailing them in the first
place! *sigh*

What you can do (I have done this myself), is follow one of the many guides
about changing the product code of the phone to another edition, upgrade the
firmware, and change the product code back again.

I debranded my Three N73, cos I was having to turn off/on the mobile to
reset it at least every hour when I was using the phone for different apps
and when I used the built in gallery app it sometimes crashed the phone.
Since I changed the product code and updated the firmware to generic N73 ME
the phone is quicker and more reliable. I can goo for days now without
having to reset.

Why do 3, O2, Orange and the worst offender Vodafone allow these firmware
releases?
Or more to the point, why do Nokia allow these firmware releases as its
really Nokia that's getting the bad name in the eyes of the general public
who don't know much about mobiles and can't understand why their phone
crashed and what the hell to do to get it back working?
Telling someone to just turn it off/on every so often is a bit crap. I had a
Nokia 7610 for a year and I never had to reset it, but I did have an app to
refresh the memory.

My Sis-In-Law had the N73 (Vodafone offered her it and she liked the 3MP
Camera) and kept senting it back cos she couldn't open the gallery. When I
looked at the phone for her she had about 10 apps opened with little memory
left, but she didn't know they we're still open.

Does this disable any of the 3 apps? I've found the N73 somewhat slow,
and i've
managed to crash it a few times now.

Do you have the product code for the generic UK .0.0.3 firmware?

When you rebrand you lose the Hutchinson Security Certificates and won't be
able to use the 3 MSN Messenger and Mobilecast, but you can get the MSN 1.0
app and I use the Nokia Podcasting app (much better and you can add your own
in), see below for the apps. I've tried to get the H3 certificates, but
can't find them on the web and no one seems to know how to send me them?

Also games won't download correctly from the Planet 3 pages, but music seems
okay.

PS: If you rebrand, remember to change your product code back to the 3 one,
so if anything goes wrong and you need to take to a repair centre it shows
up as the correct product code and if questioned about the different
firmware on it lie through your teeth (say something must have went wrong
with the Nokia Updater, it said you had new firmware so you just downloaded
it?).

All other apps like Skype, MobileMail, YahooGO, Orb, Slingbox will work no
problem.

I'm in dispute with 3 at the moment about additional charges put on my
account for internet use, but it happened during the bad weather last week
and 3 had a power outage (there are others on the mobile forums had the same
problem), so waiting till the 28th Jan to see what my bill says. I'll post
back on here with what happens.
