So when you get burgled and call the police, don't complain they don't
turn up, as they couldn't respond to the call over the radio.

There is a world of difference between a highly trained professional
driver passing brief messages over a 2-way system and the average idiot
doing 80 down the M1 with a phone in one hand and a sandwich in the other.

Actually, for your information, many patrol cars do have handsfree
equipment on the 2-way radio systems, as do I on my amateur radio (and my
phone). Also, you may be interested to know that I have been driving and
using 2-way radio with both handheld microphones and handsfree ones since
1983 and I have never had an accident as a result of it or for any other
reason come to that.
