Hiya,
I'm having allot of problems with one caller, who keeps calling at all
times of the night / day and would like to stop them calling me.
I have asked Orange if they can block this number but they say it
cannot be done...
Is this true? if so is there any software to do it.
Thankies :-)

If you can divert calls to a landline overnight (free using Orange's
Everyphone service if you're eligeable) and have choose to refuse
enabled on the landline, calls to that number can be stopped, whilst
the divert is in place.
On some of the (more) sophisticated phones you can set the phone to
deal with calls from a given number in a particular way - silent ring
for instance. Thinking about that further, you could create a group
that just included that number and have a silent ring tone on many
phones.
Unfortunately, the only sure way is to use the Choose to Refuse service
as this works even if the number is witheld - falls over a bit if they
use a different cli to call you on, though,.,

Other than what Jono says not really. Even then if the caller withholds
their number they will still get through to you - Choose to Refuse without
divert avoids this because even withheld numbers are filtered according to
the originating CLI.
Mobile companies have been very slow to provide a Choose to Refuse service
and an ACR service (they haven't provided one at all). The technology
certainly exists. There's even an argument that the failure to provide an
ACR service is a breach of an European Union directives - the same directive
that originally required ACR to be provided for free. BT was dragged kicking
and screaming to provide what turned out to be an over priced ACR service so
I wouldn't hold out much hope for the mobile telephone companies.
Oddly very few phones provide a software ACR or call reject service - I
can't actually think of one that does (some of the earlier Sagem models
did).

Yes it is.

Such software usually depends on caller ID, so all they would have to do
is withhold.
Sort out the issue that is causing the person to behave in this manner,
or change your number.

Google for Advanced Call Manager, you might need to pay for it though.
Supports blocking selected and withheld numbers.

Report it to the police as a nuisance caller.

Indeed. They have, in violation of their licence terms IMO,
deliberately refused to provide ACR. Unfortunately, Oftel - who were
funded by the industry and chose not to enforce the law - disagreed -
and supported their paymasters. Ofcon are no better.

It is.

IIRC the directive (1990's) did not actually say "free" :-(

BT still don't - AFAIK - provide it on ISDN. They claim it's not
possible. Which is strange as I and many others implemented it in
software on our local systems when BT refused to provide it at the
exchange level and Oftel (as it was) wimped out on enforcing the law.

The German software I used "CAPITel" - IIRC - worked very well. It
would also allow me to block "unavailable" calls (from call centres
of course) due to BT's prefixing system at the time ;-)

Re: Blocking Callers
Try smartphoneware's blacklist application, I have it on my N73 and can
blacklist numbers or ones with no caller ID. Alternatively you can Accept
only numbers from a list and schedule it.
Check my webiste in the Nokia N73 section for a list of smartphoneware apps.

They will instantly assign a team of crack detectives to deal with this...
;-)
After months of annoyance calls the only advice the cops will give is to
change your number.

I thought that the MYX-7 did but, on checking, it turns out that I probably
misread the description of the phone's features - the option isn't detailed
in the phone's manual.

Oh bum, I'd probably have got one off of ebay if it had.

All the call manager software products can block specific numbers and/
or withheld numbers too.
I used Advanced Call Manager and it was the business.
