Hi,
Looking for the most decent contract that would allow me to have an
unlocked phone with a proper data plan, I've emailed T-Mobile to ask them
about their policy regarding unlocking their contract phones. Just got
their answer so in case anybody is looking for this info, here is the
rundown:
- T-Mobile contract phones are usually locked to T-Mobile
- T-Mobile will suplly you with an unlock code for a £15 fee provided that:
* you've had your T-Mobile contract for at least a month
* you haven't asked for the unlock code more than 3 times in the last 12
months
* you have paid all of your outstanding bills
The £15 unlock code fee will be charged on your next monthly bill. If might
take up to 28 days for you to receive the unlock code.

* you don't use sites such as http://unlock.nokiafree.org/ to do it
yourself for nothing

As far as I know, current Nokia phones, at least the current N- and
E-series ones can only be unlocked by the operators. There are no code
generators for them. Your site only lists very old models. If I'm wrong,
feel free to correct me and send me a link to a code generator that works
with current Nokia phones.

I last used that site on a 6230 so perhaps you're right. At the risk
of repeating heresay, tmobile is apparently quite good for not locking
phones in the first place.
I'm amused that tmobile told you you could only have the unlock code
if you'd not asked for it more than 3 times! Perhaps that's to stop
people from getting their mates phones unlocked at the end of their
contract?
