#1 | | Guest | Got calls from this CLI, and also a sales call (loans) from CLI of
01111. How can this be? Can CLI to mobiles be spoofed also. Also have
opted out on TPS, I keep getting sales calls with cli "International"
which then changes to "Screen 2". Sounds like Urdu, I am Anglo, but my
Kashmiri mate has taught me "wrong number, dont call again, remove me
from list" etc.
Same with UK CLIs when you ring it it's NU. I realise one scam would
be to xmit an non-UK CLI, say 001 900 .. or +349 ..and when you dial
back you pay $1/sec or something. But that's not this, is it ???

People spoof numbers all the time. To get around ACR, I used to spoof
my CLI too at times.
You wouldn't call back numbers you don't recognise though, only Muppets
would do that.

Sure is, if the company is using call centres outside the UK. | | | |

So, is it easier to spoof CLI from some countries than others? Is it
illegal here? Can it be done from modem software or do you need
special hardware?

And rubbish if they are in the UK and the company concerned don't care
about the law.
If you tell the company you're TPS registered, they say "your number
IS xxxxxxxxx isn't it?" and they replace the last digit with another.
When you say "no" they say "oh I'm so sorry, I must have mis-dialled".
Totally transparent...........mind you, as this was Britain's biggest
and well-known double glazing company, you'd expect them to be
transparent :-) | | | | |
