If the intended recipient had been onto the network to say it hadn't
arrived, it might already have been barred, blocked or whatever they do.
Surely the operators don't leave 'mis-placed' active for anyone to use....

Could always sell it on Ebay!

yes - unless you want to ship it to africa.
plus if you did sell it to someone and it turned out to be barred, they
could conceivably contact the police to ask if it had been stolen before
    being sold to them.
easier to wait until the six months are up-then you are in the clear and can
    test it yourself.

Why? The person who's bidding knows the score, there used to be shed

And the answer is "Yes, in time"

Other posts in this thread have mentioned the Unsolicited Goods Act.
This act only applies to unsolicited items sent to you directly. What
you have is an "abandoned or uncollected good".
    <http://www.npt.gov.uk/shoppersrights/sr20021122abandonedgoods.cfm>

What you need to do is write to the company that sent the phone and give
them a reasonable period to collect the phone (at their expense) - say
30 days. If they fail to do so then the phone is legally yours.

And here's the clever bit: once the phone is legally yours you can order
them to unblock it. If they don't then you can take them to court and
force them to. Once unblocked you can then sell the phone legally and
    safely.

    HTH.

    Pretty much.

Why not call the network it belongs to and tell them of their mistake?
It will make you feel good.

Networks can un-blacklist just as easily as blacklist.

On what basis can you force them to do anything? There is no contract
    between the two parties involved.
