Sorry for the cross-posting, but this seemed to straddle both groups!
I've started using the sms service available via the 1899 website (the
other related companies offer the same service now) but I can't get it
to use my mobile number as an ID, only my landline! When I tried to
remove my landline as a registered number, then the only ID available
was the 0870 access number. Is this on purpose, or has anyone else
managed to get their mobile number as the ID? (More useful, obviously!)

    TIA,

    David

Some people are stating they can select their mobile and / or landline
number, others like myself are only able to select the freephone 0808 access
    number as the Caller ID.

Have you used 1899 to make any calls yet?

I have two numbers registered with 1899, but I've only used one of
them to make calls via the service. I can only select that number
(and the 0808 one) as my 'sender ID.'

Yeah hundreds of calls, been using 1899 for several years, along with their
    other services.

I was one of the original people letting people know about 18866, 1899 and
then 18185, and their VoIP services too.

I think Martin had the right idea. I'd registered my mobile number, but
had never _used_ it. I made a call from the mobile an hour ago, and the
minute it showed on the bill, I could use the mobile number as the ID.
    Thanks Martin!

    That was with 1899.

Yet, over the last few years I've used used the service from my mobiles, as
I have from the 01 and 02 numbers, still they don't show.

It's not like I have only just come accross the service and decided to sign
up for the texts, I've been usuing them from a couple of days after they
started up, first I started with 18866 back when it was 1p/min and 1p
connection, then they dropped it to 0.5p/min then 0p/min then slowly crept
the connection charge up. I joined 1899 as I said when they started up and
    were cheaper than 18866.

Have you used these mobile numbers recently? Try removing the mobile
number, adding it, then making a call from it.

Used recently, yes. I'll just leave it and wait for it to be sorted.

Crazy thing is 1899 support simply say if you want people to reply, send the
mobile number in with the text!

Like some others I got my "mobile number" to appear as ID for SMS message
only after I had made a chargeable call on 1899 via my mobile number.

Now I can successfully send SMS from 1899 with sender ID appearing as my
    mobile number.

I suggest this might be a form of security verification to prevent anyone
"spoofing" the sender ID, i.e. before you can use your mobile number as the
sender ID you have to demonstrate that you actually have access to the
mobile and can make a call from it. Not the strongest form of security but
still would require physical access to the mobile.

    Only my "pennysworth".

Have you tried to quit complaining, if they were huge quotes I'd snip, but
    it was only small quotes.

With all due respect, I don't think seven levels of > constitutes a small

Has anyone checked what they were charged?

I sent 4 texts to Italy - each was charged 4 pence, rather than the "to
every country for only 1 p/message" that they are advertising.
A text to Luxembourg was only 1p though.

I was charged 1p for the UK texts- haven't texted abroad yet.

I received an email from 1899 advertising the 1p rate to Italy, while
