#1 | | Guest | Cant seem to find any details of the actual deal these phones come
with, so I'm guessing there isn't one.
Does this mean if I buy say an 02 Nokia PAYG from one of these shops,
I can use any of the 02 PAYG deals? or perhaps even just have the
phone unlock and go anywhere else? Is this how it works?
TIA

Maybe. A lot of the phones sold at Argos, etc. are subsidised by the
networks as they make their money from call costs later on. However, if
the phone is never used on the intended network, the retailer doesn't get
a credit for it so they do not like you doing it.
I've heard some phones have the SIM glued in, I know that Argos have/had a
one mobile phone per customer policy.

I bet.

You're best of going to carphone warehouse, that way, you most properly get
a phone which is Unlocked and Unbranded.

Yes, they can't stop you using another SIM of the same operator, and even
using the SIM that comes with the phone you will be able to pich which O2
PAYG deals/tarifs
or perhaps even just have the

Yes if it is an unlockable phone.
There was tails of 3 gluing the SIMS in but I have never heard of other
operators doing that.

I believe that 3 are gluing in some SIM cards.

Excellent. That widens the options a little ;-)

Only on the low-end ZTE (I think) handsets. What makes it even worse is
that the "glue" is a resin that can be removed (though not easily) but once
removed you'll find that there is no SIM card holder so the phone is still
useless.

Has any actually seen one of these glue phones themselves as opposed to
being told about them by others ????

Presumably though, if there has previously been room for a SIM card
holder, it might be possible to fit one (perhaps gleaned from an old
phone), or, alternatively to glue in a SIM with more easily removeable
glue.

It would be intirely possible, but is it worth it? It's nigh-on impossible
to remove all the resin even with the correct solvent, and when you consider
how cheap some simple PAYG phones are........

Yes, but as I stated in my other post, I've only seen this done on the cheap
ZTE handsets.

That is very easy to sort out, you can unglue them in about 5 minutes then
have the phones unlocked.
